A tray shows three meals bought from a quick service in Disneys Animal Kingdom, two of which are bao buns with crisps, the other is a bowl of veggies

What does quick service and sit down mean?

Eating at Disney explained:

  • Can we not sit down to eat our food?
  • What do you mean by quick serve, do we have to take it away?
  • Do we have a time limit at quick serve?

These are all the sorts of questions people are asking about eating at disney. I’ll do my best to explain it to you.

Firstly there are two MAIN types of places to eat, there are a few other exceptions. In the main they fall into one of two types :

Sit down restaurants

This is a restaurant where you need to make a reservation to book a table. Often these reservations (espicially the popular ones) get booked up months in advance. Which is why you need to plan early for any ‘must do’ restaurants on your list. There are limited ‘walk up’ spaces available which you can join a queue on the my disney experience app at many restaurants. However if you want to guarantee a table then be sure to book ahead!

Top tip: If you think you might want to dine somewhere then book it anyway if you’re undecided – you can always cancel it easily nearer the time if plans change!

Quick Service

This is a restaurant where you order your own food (either via the app or by speaking to a cast member at a podium) then most places you wait to collect it along with collecting your own cutlery and sauces etc. There are some quick serve where it is brought out to you (at the table) but if this is the case you will be advised of this.

When we talk about quick serve you may instantly think of places like McDonalds but there is soooooo much more to it than burgers. There is food from around the world and you’re sure to find a dish for everyone!

Above: Some of the delicious food from Satu’li Canteen inside Disneys Animal Kingdom park – build your own bowls and bao buns, so tasty!

Top tip: If your not sure where to eat quick serve the app has all the menus on it so you can check before you walk there!

Snack Outlets

You might not think a snack is not a meal but think again! Eating at Disney is different. Some of the Disney park snacks are amazing value and very filling. Often you can share a few snacks and not need any other food. There are too many to list here but check out out planner pages for some of the park highlights! Snack menus change regularly so we update as often as we can. Although some items remain a staple of the parks – such as the pineapple float!

When you think of snacks you are probably thinking of ice cream and crisps etc. However they can be so much more than that (the cheeseburger springs rolls at the spring roll cart in Magic Kingdom are a very populat choice!)

Check out the official Disney Park Blog for sneak peaks of snacks coming soon to disney parks. Its an amazing resorce to use for your upcoming trip.

Top tip: Many snacks are park specific or even holiday or event specific – if you spot something you want to try be sure to check it’ll be available when you visit. Novelty popcorn buckets make a great decoration when you get back home!
